Victoria (Rabat) is Gozo’s little capital and, in many ways, the island’s everyday heart. It’s where locals shop, meet for coffee and catch the bus out to the villages and beaches, with the Citadel watching over it all, and it’s where you’ll find some of the most practical places to stay in Victoria Gozo.
You won’t get sea views from your balcony here, but you do get everything close by: supermarkets, pharmacies, cafés, churches and the main bus hub. If you like the idea of using Gozo’s buses or don’t want to be tied to just one bay, Victoria makes a very practical base.
Below I’ve picked my favourite places to stay in Victoria from small guesthouses, boutique hotels, B&Bs and a few self-catering options.

Is Victoria a good base in Gozo?
Yes, Victoria is a very practical base. You’re in the middle of the island with buses going in all directions, plenty of shops and cafés, and the Citadel just above you. It’s ideal if you want to explore a different beach or village every day rather than stay tied to one bay.
Can I stay in Victoria without a car?
Absolutely. Victoria is the bus hub for the whole island, so you can reach most beaches and villages by public transport. As long as you’re happy to plan around bus times and do a bit of walking, you don’t need a car to enjoy Gozo from here.
Is it noisy at night?
Most of the time Victoria is fairly calm at night, especially on side streets away from the main roads and squares. You might hear some traffic, church bells and, in summer, festa fireworks on certain evenings. If you’re a very light sleeper, choose a place on a quieter street or a property that mentions soundproofed rooms.
Discovering the beauty of this gem in the Mediterranean by car is certainly the best way to experience its hidden beaches, charming villages, and also hidden paths that are difficult to reach by public transport.
