Discovering Malta's Christmas Pleasure: Dates & What’s On

Christmas markets have become a lovely part of the festive season in Malta and Gozo, with events ranging from large organised attractions to smaller markets created by local councils, schools and village communities. They generally begin in November and continue through December, with some festive events running into early January.

Over the years, we have visited many Christmas markets around Malta with our family, and for us they are about much more than shopping. We enjoy walking around the stalls, trying Christmas food and sweets, buying festive treats, decorations, gifts and plants, and simply spending a morning or evening together. Smaller village markets can feel particularly local, with residents helping to cook, decorate and organise the event. Below are the Christmas markets announced for 2026, along with important recurring markets whose new dates are still awaiting confirmation.

Christmas Artisan Market at Fairyland 2026

Fairyland transforms the area around Pjazza Tritoni at the entrance to Valletta with Christmas stalls, food, rides and festive attractions. We have visited it ourselves and particularly like its central location and lively Christmas atmosphere. It is more than a traditional Christmas market, making it especially popular with families.

Natalis Notabilis 2026

Natalis Notabilis fills Rabat's historic streets with Christmas stalls, food, crafts, cribs, and entertainment. We have visited many times, and for us the old streets are a big part of what makes it special. It is one of Malta's most popular Christmas events, attracting large crowds and plenty of stalls, and it is often where we unexpectedly meet friends and people we know.

Our local tip: Allow plenty of time to explore Rabat’s old streets and browse the stalls. Wear comfortable shoes and bring a warm layer for the evening. You can also combine your visit with a walk around nearby Mdina.

Christmas Market at Villa Rundle, Gozo 2026

Villa Rundle Gardens in Victoria hosts one of Gozo's main Christmas markets, with artisan stalls, gifts, festive food and Christmas activities in the centre of Victoria. We have visited it ourselves and consider it one of the Gozo Christmas events worth visiting during the festive season.
